Enter your date of birth to instantly reveal your zodiac sign, Chinese zodiac, birthstone, ruling planet, lucky numbers & more.
You can find your zodiac (birth) sign in two ways — manually using the date range table below, or instantly with the free calculator further down this page.
Example: If you were born on April 10, find April in the table → Aries (March 21 – April 19). April 10 falls within that range, so your sign is Aries ♈.
Use this complete reference table to look up any birthday manually. Each row shows the sign's date range, element, and ruling planet.

Your birth sign — also called your sun sign, star sign, or zodiac sign — is determined by the position of the Sun in the sky on the day you were born. The Sun moves through each of the 12 zodiac signs over the course of a year, spending approximately 30 days in each.
Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, which is anchored to Earth's seasons rather than the physical constellations. This means Aries always begins at the spring equinox (around March 21), regardless of where the constellation of Aries appears in the actual night sky.
Your birth sign is the single most widely recognised piece of a person's astrological identity. It colours your outward personality, your conscious motivations, and your general approach to life. Most people find that their sign captures at least a portion of who they are — though astrologers note that a complete picture includes the Moon sign and Rising sign as well.
Each zodiac sign covers a specific period of the year, beginning with Aries at the spring equinox and ending with Pisces in late February. The dates can shift by a day or two each year depending on the exact time the Sun moves between signs — which is why people born near the boundary (called a "cusp") sometimes identify with two signs.
The 12 signs are divided into four elements — Fire, Earth, Air, and Water — each containing three signs:
Signs are also grouped by modality: Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) initiate action; Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) sustain it; Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) adapt and transition.
Your element is one of the most important layers of zodiac interpretation. Fire signs are driven by passion and ambition — they act first and reflect later. Earth signs are builders: methodical, patient, and deeply reliable. Air signs are thinkers and communicators, most alive when exchanging ideas. Water signs are the feelers of the zodiac — deeply intuitive, empathic, and emotionally complex.
Alongside the Western zodiac, this tool also reveals your Chinese zodiac animal — an entirely different system based on the year of your birth rather than your birth month. The Chinese zodiac rotates through 12 animals in a cycle: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each animal carries its own personality profile and cultural significance.
Unlike the Western zodiac, everyone born in the same year shares the same Chinese zodiac animal — making it a social identifier across generations in many East Asian cultures. Note that the Chinese year begins with the Lunar New Year (usually in late January or February), so people born before that date follow the previous year's animal.
Your birthstone is tied to your birth month rather than your zodiac sign specifically. Birthstones have been used for centuries across many cultures as protective talismans and meaningful gifts. The modern standardised list includes gems like Garnet (January), Amethyst (February), Aquamarine (March), Diamond (April), Emerald (May), and Ruby (July), among others.
Zodiac compatibility in Western astrology is primarily based on elemental harmony. Signs in the same or complementary elements tend to understand each other's core nature more intuitively. Fire and Air signs energise each other through shared enthusiasm and communication. Earth and Water signs ground and nurture each other with stability and emotional depth.
That said, astrologers caution that true compatibility requires comparing full birth charts — including Moon signs, Rising signs, Venus placements, and more. Two people with challenging sun signs can have deeply compatible Moon signs that bridge the gap entirely. Use our Moon Sign Calculator alongside this tool for a fuller picture.
